As part of the beastly ‘ Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010’, important energy efficiency tax credits were passed by the US Senate this week.
The residential energy efficiency tax credit (25C), currently available for 30% of qualified energy efficiency improvements, up to $1,500, has been extended into 2011- yet at lower rates.
The credit will be worth $500, Pre-ARRA levels.
Although a relief that these are extended, it is troubling that incentive levels are going down. With so much need to drive demand and offset costs of home energy retrofits in an uncertain economy, our government should be committing resources that begin to wean our economy off of fossil fuel.
In 2010 Cozy Home Performance spent many hours lobbying for a comprehensive federal climate bill and the Home Star bill. Although it is easy to consider this energy spent in vain, we are hopeful that efforts have helped to further establish the home performance industry…for when America is ready to make changes for an energy-smart future.
