Mark Lantz of Cozy Home Performance came to my house in November 2009 for a home performance audit. I was referred to him by a person at the Center for Ecological Technology, who said that although they couldn’t endorse specific companies, they knew Cozy Home Performance could do a very detailed job and provide recommendations to help me move my home from good to great energy efficiency and health of the indoor environment.

When I spoke to Mark on the phone, he asked detailed questions about what I wanted to achieve through an energy audit. During his visit, he went through the house very thoroughly, doing a blower door test, using an infrared gun and checking out our boiler. I learned a lot in the process…it was fascinating to see the many pictures from the infrared gun which even revealed the conduction of cold through the drywall screws! Afterward, he created a detailed report summarizing his findings and providing a prioritized list of actions that I could take to enhance the ability of the house to hold it’s warmth (and cold in the summer) and to provide myself and my family with a healthy environment. I learned that the lack of insulation around my foundation was the most glaring piece to address for energy efficiency. For IAQ, Mark spoke about the need for ventilation, when tightening a home; I also became aware of mold on the base of some windows where condensation had been forming.

Sincerely,

John
