The Whitman attic project took a while to come to fruition. The owner, a student of home performance, took his time planning the historic farmhouse renovation.

The attic retrofit was done with a mixed assembly of closed cell spray foam, rigid foam board, and dense packed cellulose. The attic flat was cleaned out, the lathe and plaster inspected.

Spray foam has high R-value, is an air/vapor barrier, and increased the durability of the ceiling.

2″ of polyunsaturate, is installed on top of the floor joists before cellulose is dense-packed in the bays.

The result is a complete air barrier and high performing attic, increased building durability, and a viable storage area.
