Junio Anthes-Moody interned for Cozy Home Performance,
which provides audits, weatherization services, & thermal
envelope retrofits. Cozy Home is located in Northampton,
Massachusetts and was one of the businesses which
contributed valuable input when the RE/EE program was
getting started under the Sustainable Practices in
Construction (SPC) grant. To get the position, Junio needed
to show some knowledge in building science, which he had
acquired in classes in the certificate program, particularly
SCI 126 Residential Efficiency and Energy Auditing. He also
needed to be willing to get dirty. His responsibilities as an
intern were mostly in weatherization: air sealing, blowing
cellulose, spray foaming, but he also shadowed on audits &
performed blower door tests. He also researched building
modeling software for Cozy Home. The internship term lasted
for 10 weeks (8 hours per week), but hours were flexible.
Because this internship occurred during the SPC grant in 2009,
the company and the grant jointly paid for his hours. Junio is
currently an energy auditor for Next Step Living and performs
audits throughout Western Massachusetts. He also is retrofitting
his own home in Brattleboro, Vermont where he chaired the
Solid Waste Committee, and volunteers in the Community
Organic Waste compost program.
