Local general Contractor, Wade Clement, hired Cozy Home to design and rebuild the building envelope of a 100-year-old cottage.
Versus new construction, retrofits require a great deal of thought and detail. This building had post and beam framing along with interior stud wall framing. The bays varied from 6″ to 10” deep and had many air barrier flaws that had to be repaired. With the targeted use of spray foam, the building envelope air barrier was established as well as intricate framing fully insulated. After inspection of the air barrier and thermal breaks over framing the framing was netted and the walls fully dense packed with cellulose. Average R-value achieved was R28. In the future, when the roof is replaced, the roof will be fully insulated with spray foam.
