A wonderful new arts and theater venue is under construction in Northampton, Mass. – the Northampton Community Arts Trust building.
The building renovation was designed by Thom Douglas Architects and DA Sullivan was the construction manager, both of Northampton. One of the many exceptional building features are the rigorous energy efficiency standards beginning with the building envelope air-tightness target. The blower door building air-tightness test was performed by Adin Maynard of His and Hers Energy Efficiency and Mark Lantz of Cozy Home Performance. The result of the test proved very successful! The standard established by the Army Corps of Engineers was easily achieved. Click to open the findings report.
The success of the envelope air-tightness is attributed to the overall construction details, the specialized panel facade and the detailed air barrier sealing. The air sealing was completed by Foam USA, LLC of Easthampton. The crucial details were the interface between wall panel to metal roof rafter seam/joints. Below is video of the installation by Matt DeJesus. Matt’s experience and atttention to detail were integral for success. Gaco Onepass closed cell foam was installed.
A big thanks to Adin Maynard. The diagnostic testing was flawless and the results captured clearly in his findings report.
The panel wall and interface with the metal fluted deck was sealed and insulated with 6″ of closed cell spray foam. This provides a durable air barrier with excellent R-value performance. The foam must be installed by a trained professional. Matt DeJesus is field manager and lead installer for Foam USA, LLC.
